Farfa Natural Reserve:
How to reach: Just to the north of Rome. Exit Motorway A1 at “Fiano Romano”. Direction “Nazzano”. (Tel: +39 0765-332777) About 40 km.
This recently recognised natural reserve features some 700 hectares marsh and forest land around the Tiber river. There are many varieties of fauna and flora as well as bird life.
Mount Terminillo:

About 80 km.
Mount Terminillo, known also as “the Roman mountain” is one of the most important and better equipped of the winter tourist resorts that are in the southern central part of Italy. At an elevation of 1500 and 2000 meters, there are: 3 chair lifts, a cable car and 9 ski lifts that serve 40 Km of slopes for downhill skiing.
During summer, Mount Terminillo offers a lot of amazing trekking excursions. . The itineraries take place amongst peaks and meadowed valleys with magnificent panoramas. On the meadows, from April on, there is an explosion of colors, with splendid and rare flowers.
Mount Navegna and Cervia Natural Reserve:
How to reach: follow the SS4 to Rieti and exit at Monteleone Sabino. (Tel: +39 0765-99087) About 50 km.
1350 hectares of woodland and hill ranges await. A number of picnic areas are dotted around the reserve.
The Marmore Waterfall:
How to reach: follow the S.S. Valnerina in direction “Terni”. (Tel: +39 0744/423047) About 45 km.
Just outside of Terni in Umbria, this is the highest (146m) waterfall in Europe. There are plenty of walks around the site too.
Mount Lucretili Natural Park:
How to reach: Following Rieti, take the Salaria road in direction “Palombara Sabina”. (Tel: +39 0744-637027) About 60 km.
Just to the south of Magliano at Palombara Sabina, this park is excellent for trekking, bird watching and 'torrent surfing'.
